Blackmer GX And X Sliding Vane Pumps Aid In The Growing Need For Transloading Biodiesel

Grand Rapids, MI – Biodiesel has become one of the nation’s more attractive alternative fuels because it can be produced from renewable fats and oils, can be blended with petroleum diesel at any percentage and works in virtually any diesel motor. However, getting this increasingly popular fuel from Point A to Point B and beyond has become one of the new challenges in fuel-delivery operations. That’s where transloading comes in. Transloading is the practice of transferring product between truck and rail transportation, in the process getting the goods as close to the point of final processing and consumption as economically possible.

And that’s where the GX and X Series Sliding Vane Pumps from Blackmer come in. Blackmer, a global leader in positive displacement rotary vane, eccentric disc and centrifugal pump technologies, has designed its GX and X Series pumps to increase the overall efficiency of the biodiesel transloading process.

The GX and X Series pumps — which come in eight different models with maximum flow rates between 40 and 528 U.S. gpm — are designed specifically for reliable continuous transloading of feed stocks and end products. These pumps are ideally suited for handling biodiesel thanks to their self-priming and high suction lift capabilities, which make them ideal for pumping from underground storage tanks and bulk plants, stripping lines, and completely removing the heel from rail and transport tankers. The GX and X Series pumps are available in 2-, 2.5-, 3- and 4-inch flanged port sizes.

The vane technology principles of the GX and X Series ensure proper sealing and volumetric output performance, even after significant in-service time. This eliminates the efficiency-robbing “slip” that shortens lobe and gear pump life, and improves production yields by stripping lines clean of residual product.

The GX and X Series both provide smooth, sliding vane action without metal-to-metal contact, which reduces pump friction, eliminates galling and minimizes agitation of fluids, resulting in shear-sensitive, mild handling of thin liquids without product degradation. The GX and X Series pumps set the industry standard for low- and medium-viscosity process and transfer applications.

Blackmer is an operating company within Dover Corporation's Pump Solutions Group (PSG™). Formed by its parent company Dover Corporation (DOV: NYSE) in 2008, PSG combines the following operating companies into a cohesive pump organization with a broad array of pump technologies: Wilden®, the world's largest manufacturer of AODDPs; Blackmer®, the largest global manufacturer of sliding vane pumps; Mouvex-Blackmer™, a manufacturer of eccentric disc pumps; Griswold™, an ANSI centrifugal pump manufacturer; Almatec®, a premier manufacturer of air-operated diaphragm pumps specializing in 100%-machined plastic pumps; and Neptune™, a producer of chemical metering pumps, mixers and chemical feed systems.
