Blackmer Provane® Motor Speed Vane Pump Line Ideal For Biodiesel Processing And Blending Operations

Grand Rapids, MI – Blackmer’s new ProVane® Motor Speed Vane Pump line is ideally suited for biodiesel processing and blending applications. Available in either ductile iron or the feature-enhanced stainless steel model, the ProVane is designed for continuous duty operations in low and medium viscosity process applications.

ProVane pumps are designed for blending processes that need to maintain physical and chemical properties of a liquid batch. New stainless steel ProVane pumps feature a patent pending, heavy-duty rotor and shaft that offer high fatigue and bending strength and provide for volumetric repeatability to ensure consistent blend purity under a wide range of operating conditions. ProVane pumps utilize self-adjusting vanes to eliminate efficiency-robbing “slip,” maintaining near original volumetric output capacity and consistency even after significant wear. And, with proven priming and suction capabilities, ProVane pumps are ideal for line stripping, complete evacuation of heels and superior lift from underground storage tanks.

The pump’s hydrodynamic journal bearing utilizes fluid boundary principle to provide superior bearing life, which is critical to ensuring the elimination of the most problematic challenges of light liquid transfer. Under many operating conditions, there is no bearing wear because the shaft rides on a fluid boundary to eliminate bearing-to-shaft (metal-to-metal) contact. Because friction is significantly reduced, heat build-up and energy loss are greatly reduced, resulting in higher mechanical efficiency and energy savings.

The pump offers efficiency at low flow rates and also allows for higher operating speeds and pressures on low viscosity fluids compared to other types of PD pumps. The ProVane pump is also capable of low flow, high head applications on low viscosity fluids where centrifugal pumps can’t run. Blackmer’s patented Cavitation/Noise Suppression Liner that controls the wear effects of cavitation and reduces noise levels up to 15 dbA is available for both stainless steel and ductile iron pumps.

The stainless steel model offers all the same standard features as the ductile iron model including operating speeds up to 3,600 rpm with capacities from 6 to 100 U.S. gpm, and is available in five sizes ranging from 3/4" to 2”. Both the ductile iron and stainless steel models offer superior self-priming capability and exceptional low shear fluid transfer. Neither pump model requires a gear reducer, so each offers upfront equipment, installation and energy cost savings, and a smaller footprint than that of a conventional pumping unit.

ProVane pumps offer easy maintenance – the pump can be completely rebuilt with piping attached. An optional Relief Valve is available to help protect the pump in a high pressure build-up situation. Capable of holding pressure under variable flow and pressure conditions, the valve offers an additional level of protection for pump operation.
